Sunboy shine a light with new track ‘Oracle’
Forget psych - this Colorado outfit has refined itself into an alt-pop juggernaut.
A couple of years back, Colorado outfit Sunboy put out some of the most promising, psych-doused early efforts around at the time. Songs like ‘Highway Screamin’’ no doubt rode the coattails of Jagwar Ma and Tame Impala, but in their time away, Sunboy appear to have forged an identity of their own.
‘Oracle’ is the finest realisation of their day-glo aesthetic so far, and it also sees Justin Renaud going centre stage. Under crystal-clear production, he combines hopping, Beirut-style pianos with sunny, synth-drenched yearning, like Toro Y Moi if he penned outright love songs. It’s lush to an extreme, comfort in sound.
The song’s taken from new EP ‘Yesterday Is In Love With You’, due out later this year.
Live, Renaud’s solo studio work is fleshed out into a five-piece. Catch them on the following dates:
JULY
07 Morrison, CO, Red Rocks Amphitheatre
09 Denver, CO, The Hi-Dive
28-31 Denver, CO, The Underground Music Showcase
AUGUST
13 Denver, CO, The Marquis Theater
SEPTEMBER
01 Boulder, CO, The Fox Theatre
