Sunboy return with ‘Nu Religion’ single
Psych newcomers’ latest follows one of the best singles of 2013, ‘Highway Screamin”
Colorado two-piece Sunboy last year put out one of the most head-turning single/video combos in goodness knows how long. ‘Highway Screamin” was a cut-and-paste psych number, doused head to toe in a heavy dose of outward-thinking, hook-laden brilliance.
Today they return with ‘Nu Religion’, a great, lumbering follow-up that builds on early efforts with something more severe in delivery. It dips its toes in ’90s references too, with a baggy second half near-enough inviting Bez to join in on the maracas.
Tame Impala comparisons persist, but there’s plenty else going on in this colossal sonic assault.
