SUNFACE changes the season with shimmering debut EP

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from SUNFACE.

The future’s bright for SUNFACE. Daniel Longmore started the project on the side of his go-to band TRASH, an output for rough-edged guitar pop inspired by Real Estate and Mac DeMarco. Just a couple of months since riding solo, however, and he’s given himself an exciting platform to launch from.

Longmore keeps it simple on this first work, premiering below on DIY. No frills, no funny business, sharp melodies and a daydream aesthetic come first - the rest writes itself. Like the best music of this ilk, SUNFACE excels when differing emotions are on a tightrope. He’ll sing about how getaway holidays used to rule, not how he’s currently soaking up vibes on the coast - that’d be too one-dimensional. Instead, summertime sadness rules the roost.

There’s enough across these five tracks to suggest Longmore has an exciting life ahead of him, whether that’s via TRASH, SUNFACE or whatever else he puts his mind to.
