Sunflower Bean unveil plans for new album ‘Mortal Primetime’
They’re toasting the news by releasing its lead single, ‘Champagne Taste’.

New York rockers Sunflower Bean have announced that they’ll be dropping their fourth album, ‘Mortal Primetime’, on 25th April via Lucky Number, less than a year since the arrival of last September’s ‘Shake’ EP.
It’s set to be the trio’s first self-produced album, and the follow-up proper to 2022’s ‘Headful Of Sugar’. After that last effort, the band found themselves moving in different directions, drifting apart as life got in the way. But, as frontwoman Julia Cumming has explained, they ultimately reconnected, deciding to wholeheartedly commit themselves to the project they’ve spent over a decade building.
“You get to decide what your prime is, and you fight for it,” she has said. “This is ours, and that can’t be taken away by circumstance. We can’t take it away from each other. This moment, where we are now, is what we’ve always fought for.”
And latest single ‘Champagne Taste’ is testament to this renewed vigor: named after the moniker the band use when road-testing new material, it’s a searing slice of classic rock that they have said “came after a period that felt like rock bottom”. Continuing, they share: “It is about feeling beaten down but still driving forward, to keep faith, to grow and to continue to create on our own terms, our Mortal Primetime.”
