Earlier in the Glastonbury weekend, Swim Deep opened the Other Stage with a bold showcase of new material from their second album ‘Mothers’.

Speaking after the set, the band describe it as a “really big moment”.

“Since we got booked, this is what we’ve been working towards,” says keyboardist James Balmont. “It was such a big stage, proper professional,” adds Higgy. “The crowd were amazing. Everyone camps by the Other Stage and wakes up when the music starts. We could just see everything flocking towards us,” says James.

Post-Other Stage set, the band have been exploring the rest of what Glastonbury has to offer. Cav’s off to the Bootleg Beatles, frontman Austin Williams just saw Lionel Richie (“That was the one thing that he wanted to come and see this weekend,” says Cav) and James had an emotional experience watching Patti Smith, where she was joined by the Dalai Lama.

“I cried,” he admits. “Patti Smith was incredible. She was saying stuff like “be yourself”, and then she brings out the Dalai Lama, it’s his birthday, everyone’s singing “happy birthday”, he gets a cake - it was mental.

“He said these words and I’ve never been at any performance before where everyone was so silent. He was saying that ‘every day is a new day, we’re all compassionate living things.’ He didn’t say anything about Swim Deep, though.”

New album ‘Mothers’ is released on 18th September via Chess Club / RCA.
