The 1975 to headline Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival

But will they be bringing a brand new album along with them?

Almost two years on since their last live shows, The 1975 have announced that they’ll be headlining Japan’s Summer Sonic festival, taking place in Tokyo and Osaka on 20th and 21st August.

It follows yesterday’s news that the group seem to be getting ready to kick off their new era after clearing all their social media accounts, and an accompanying press release says the band are “currently in the studio in England where they are writing, recording and mixing their forthcoming fifth studio album.”

Speaking about the new 1975 record for our 22 most anticipated new albums of 2022, we said, “From the November 2018 release of ‘A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships’ through the extended rollout of ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’ in mid-2020, The 1975 were an omnipresent force. In 2021, however, by their standards, the band were basically invisible. Absence makes the heart grow fonder though, and after disappearing from view for a year, the news that Matty Healy and co are back in the studio and working on a new album for 2022 is enough to get us through the harshest winter months.”
