The 1975 post cryptic cartoon hinting at split, delete social media accounts

The 1975 have hinted at a possible disappearance or split by posting a cryptic cartoon, while removing all official presence on social media.

On Sunday (31st May), rumours circulated suggesting that the band - or its current entity - would be no more. A detailed, elaborate cartoon was posted on frontman Matt Healy’s Twitter page (see below), saying: “Our projected identity must change not only visually but philosophically – how do you do that? Firstly we must reclaim our identity & repossess our control of it … Until then there won’t be any pop music or dancing with long hair … The hardest part of any relationship is to say goodbye … So we must leave, with a parting ‘we love you.”

The cartoon also contained strange tidbits, like a newspaper bearing the headline “Kurt Cobain: I’m Not Dead!”, mentions of Swim Deep and faux opinions columns saying “Is this the end for The 1975?!”

Shortly after the cartoon was revealed, overnight The 1975 removed their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, suggesting either that they’re finished completely, or that there’s a big reveal on the way. All personal accounts - from Healy, Adam Hann, George Daniel and Ross Macdonald - have also been removed.

Before yesterday, Healy was pointing towards a big announcement on 1st June.
