The Afghan Whigs have announced not only that they are reuniting, but they will be heading to the UK.
The Cincinnati rock legends will be returning to the UK shores to play their first show in thirteen years at ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror event.
With a career spanning from the years of 1986 to 2001, The Afghan Whigs will now be replacing Guided By Voices as the Sunday night headliners (turns out, Guided By Voices are really split up after all?!) for their triumphant return to the stage.
(EDIT: Guided By Voices have not split, but simply cancelled their scheduled European shows due to personal reasons.)
The current line-up for the ATP event looks something like this:
Friday 25th May - curated by ATP
Slayer
Sleep
Melvins
Wolves In The Throne Room
Yob
Saturday 26th May
Mogwai
Dirty Three
Codeine
Mudhoney
Chavez
Floor
Balam Acab
Sunday 27th May
The Afghan Whigs
Archers Of Loaf
Thee Oh Sees
Yuck
Demdike Stare
Siskiyou
In regards to the cancellation of Guided By Voices’ set, ATP have released the following statement:
‘We’re very sad to announce the disappointing news that Guided By Voices will no longer play on the Sunday of the event. The band are breaking up due to personal reasons and have cancelled all 2012 live appearances. The band apologizes for any inconvenience and disappointment, and thanks the fans for their longterm support. Those of you who bought Sunday Day tickets for this event are invited to claim a refund if you no longer want to attend. Please contact your ticket agency before the end of January to do so. Once again we’re very sorry to be the bearers of this bad news and sorry to those of you who it has inconvenienced.’
ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror takes place at London’s Alexandra Palace from the 25th to the 27th May 2012.
