Erm...
The best selling release of Record Store Day was a cassette tape
This year also saw the independent sector account for over a quarter of the week’s entire physical music sales in the US.

With another Record Store Day wrapped up, and the early-morning queues a faint memory (until next year, anyway) the stats are in. The best selling release from the day - held to celebrate independent vinyl retailers - was…erm, a cassette tape.
As Billboard reports, Metallica’s ‘No Life Till Leather,’ a cassette-only album, sold nearly 3,000 units. As a result, it was the biggest selling record of the day. The US vinyl-only chart was also dominated by Record Store Day purchases. The White Stripes’ ‘Get Behind Me Satan’ came in at No.2, along with Bob Dylan’s ‘The Basement Tapes’ at No. 6.
This year Record Store Day sales in America accounted for over a quarter of all physical music purchases, and sales increased 46.7% from the previous trading week.
