The eBay buyer for Mac DeMarco’s old shoes never paid up

Mac and Vans helped foot the bill to pay the Willie Mac Rock Camp for Girls.

The eBay buyer for Mac DeMarco’s old shoes never paid up

Back in January, Mac DeMarco decided to sell his old shoes - worn out and covered in stains from touring - for charity.

Picking up 168 bids, the pair of shoes ending up receiving a winning bid of $21,000. As it turns out, however, the highest bidder never ended up paying.

“That little son of a bitch who had the highest bid didn’t pay!” claimed Mac in an interview with Hunger. “Vans and I split the final bid so that Will… still received the money,” he said, referring to the Willie Mac Rock Camp for Girls, a charity empowering girls through music education. “I’ve got that kid’s fucking address!”

He also said that putting the shoes online was just a bit of fun. “It was a joke to put the shoes on eBay in the first place, I wasn’t going to keep the money for myself.”

Mac DeMarco releases his mini LP ‘Another One’ on 7th August via Captured Tracks. This weekend he plays Parklife and Field Day London.
