The Maccabees Detail Self-Produced New Album
Guitarist Hugo White reports that the band have been writing since the beginning of 2013.

In an interview for DIY - taken from the latest edition of DIY Weekly - The Maccabees guitarist Hugo White gave a progress report on the band’s follow-up to 2012’s ‘Given to the Wild’.
Self-produced and being recorded at a studio in London’s Elephant & Castle, White revealed that the group have been ‘writing since the beginning of the year’ and that they’re ‘maybe just less than halfway through’ completing the record.
‘We did a session recently just to try and, you know, make sure everything was working,’ he explained to Tom Walters. ‘Because we’re in our own studio it’s a different process. Two songs are done and the rest are waiting to be sorted out.’
On their decision to self-produce the record, Hugo revealed: ‘[‘Given to the Wild’] didn’t go as planned. We went with some people and just thought, ‘this is far off from what we wanted’, you know? So we got all the files and went into our studio and were like… ‘we’ve got to make this record again in like a month!
“So we redid pretty much everything before it was released. I think that learning curve especially made us realise ‘hold on a minute, we know exactly what we want’. It makes more sense to do it yourself, sometimes it’s less stressful because you don’t actually have to spend your time explaining yourself to someone else, who you think is understanding you but maybe isn’t.”
