The Maccabees have given fans an insight into the inspiration behind their artwork for the band’s latest album.
Posted on the band’s tumblr page, they wrote the following post, giving an insight into the cover image.
‘The Album cover image comes from a series called THREE CAIRNS. The Prairie Cairn collection of pictures, from which our image is taken, is in IOWA in the Midwest (USA). The sculpture is made and photographed by Andy Goldsworthy, for us this work seems to touch on ideas of temporality and life span. When we were choosing the artwork we were all in total agreement that it was the perfect visual representative to the record. We first saw the picture in a book of Andy Goldsworthy’s work called PASSAGE and its testament to his work that almost every picture in the book would make a terrific album cover. We are very proud of having such a prestigious artist’s work on the sleeve of GIVEN TO THE WILD.’
The Maccabees released their new album ‘Given To The Wild’ on Monday.
