The Maccabees talk fourth album: “Recording is due to start very soon”
The band have just announced their first live dates since 2013: supporting Kasabian.
The Maccabees are slowly cranking back into gear with news of a support slot on Kasabian’s newly announced autumn tour - which includes five dates at O2 Academy Brixton - and an update on their fourth album, the follow up to 2012’s ‘Given to the Wild’.
“These are the first live dates to be announced since the festivals last summer whilst we have been working on our fourth album,” the band revealed on Twitter. “Thanks for all the messages since we’ve been away and for keeping with us, recording proper is due to start very soon. Obviously, more news to follow in the future but in the mean time, take care and love to you all.”
Last year the band played Latitude festival, amongst others. “We’re really getting somewhere with it now,” guitarist Hugo White told DIY in the lead up, speaking of the record. “We’ve been writing it since the beginning of the year really. We’re waiting on two songs to be mixed, and I’d say we’re maybe just less than halfway through writing it.
“I think [the songs are] as strong as they’ve ever been, and I think the thing about the timing with making the record is that it sort of just evolves over the time frame we’re in. Once we get round to [writing] we think, ‘Right, that’s what it’s going to involve,’ rather than setting out from the start and saying, ‘This is going to be about this’. It just sort of gradually falls into place.”
