The National will “start working soon” on their new album

The National have finally finished building their fancy new studio in upstate New York, at Aaron Dessner’s home, and the multi-instrumentalist says the group will “start recording soon” on their new album.

A follow-up to 2013’s ‘Trouble Will Find Me’ is not due for release in 2016, but a studio’s been built for the purpose of giving the group a “new home”. Dessner himself tells Pitchfork he’s “been really, really working hard on The National stuff now, so that’s mainly, almost every day,” and that they play to “do the whole record there, because it’ll just be fun and a good feeling.”

He also adds: “I put out a lot of records recently and I feel like I need to focus on my own music, it’ll be a different thing, a really different part of your brain, and I’m excited to get back.”

Aaron Dessner and his brother Bryce have curated the new ‘Day of the Dead’ compilation, a tribute to The Grateful Dead.

The National will play Latitude (14th-17th July), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are on sale now. Visit diymag.com/presents for more information.
