The Staves announce new EP 'Sleeping in a Car'

Ahead of nipping off on their U.S. tour next month, The Staves have announced an EP called ‘Sleeping in a Car’. Though the title’s a bit impractical - get yourself an Air Bn’B or something a bit comfier next time, eh? - the surprise pressie contains three new tracks. It’s out on 13th May via Nonesuch Records.

The sisters Stave recorded ‘Sleeping in a Car’ between London’s Urchin Studios, and Bon Iver’s infamous April Base log cabin studio in Wisconsin. Speaking about the new release, the band said “These songs reflect the transient nature of travelling. Fleeting moments, like a slide show—reflections in car windows, streetlights passing in rhythm, stolen phone calls, late nights. Feelings of displacement and a disconnect— living in some sort of alternate state of reality. But underneath it all is the feeling of adventure and making your own rules and how dizzying and freeing that can be.”

It’s their first new material since last year’s ‘If I Was. Following their U.S. live run, The Staves are UK-bound in autumn, and also pop back on 14th June to play at Guy Garvey’s edition of Meltdown festival.
