The Who claim they stepped in for Prince with Glastonbury headline slot
Blog post also claims their Sunday night set was ‘sabotaged’.
The Who have claimed that their Glastonbury headline set was originally intended for Prince.
Glastonbury’s Sunday night headliners have written in a blog post that they were a “last-months addition to the show” (presumably meaning last-minute), adding that they replaced Prince, who “decided not to come this year.”
The same blog post also claims that their on-stage equipment was tampered with. “As we began to prepare our coming changeover, we found someone had sabotaged the carefully-tested audio connections for much of our gear,” reads the post. “We’ve never seen that before, but we’re good at plugging things in, so all damage was repaired in time. Was it Mr. Weller or Lionel, no way. Dalai Lama – hmmm…. he did steal the show already.”
Going on to describe the show, the post says: “Our sound and light experts felt it really worked, with one of the most fervent audiences we’ve ever had, and zillions of them going nuts, living the music as they sang and jumped and waved arms. Compared to Hyde Park a few days ago, this crowd of 20-30-somethings was not waiting to be entertained; they were part of the entertainment.”
