The Xcerts play dress up in new ‘Pop Song’ video

And the world’s greatest Morrissey impression goes to…

Music videos should be an excuse for a bit of dress up fun, right? That’s what The Xcerts seem to think in their clip for ‘Pop Song’.

Taken from new album ‘There Is Only You’, set for release on 3rd November, the band pull off (sort of) convincing takes on everyone from Guns ’n’ Roses to The Smiths and The Cure.

Speaking about the song, front man Murray Macleod explains: “’Pop Song’ is another track much like [previous single] ‘Shaking In The Water’ that changed over the course of time the more we played it. Originally the song sounded like something from the first Cold War Kids record and we actually made the decision to make the drum beat in the verses more pounding whilst on tour with Biffy Clyro. I distinctly remember being backstage in Paris with Tom and we agreed we should make the drums more ‘stadium’ esq. Clearly playing with Biffy in big rooms each night had an affect on us.

“Lyrically the song is about falling in love with someone and being so wholeheartedly terrified about the situation that you practically go into self-sabotage mode. If like me you are an ‘over thinker’, especially when it comes to something like falling in love, you almost convince yourself the relationship is doomed before it has even begun and you end up looking at a near perfect situation very negatively, which is just batsh*t crazy. A personal fear that i’m sure many folks can relate to.”

The track itself will get a single release on December 1st. Check out the video below.

The Xcerts head out on tour this November, the dates read:

“We are really looking forward to the UK tour in November,” says Macleod. “It’s been a while since we’ve done a full UK headline tour and the fact we’ll have three albums worth of songs to pick from is really exciting. Our new record will be out by the time we hit the road so we’re looking forward to singing these songs with you all.”
