Tobias Jesso Jr. shares new ‘True Love’ song

Exciting LA songwriter continues to keep things secretive - listen to his beautiful new track.

It’s been a while since LA-based songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. shared any music, but a few things have stayed the same. His tracks are shared with an old family photograph of him playing the piano as a kid, and the recordings themselves have that same archive quality, each one sounding like a portal to a previous world. ‘Just A Dream’ was one of 2013’s most talked-about demos.

A collaborator with Girls’ Chet ‘JR’ White, Jesso Jr.’s a relatively spotlight-shunning figure. New song ‘True Love’ shows his hand, though. A beautifully direct piece of songwriting, it’s a song about how two fucked up, hopeless people go about their miserable lives before meeting halfway. They don’t care about each other’s faults and nothing will change that. “That’s what you call true love,” declares Tobias, with a simple, melodic piano line doing the rest.

His music has this amazing overseeing quality, almost as if the man behind the songs can peer straight through concrete walls and into the homes and lives of everyday people.
