Tom Vek and Finn Vine release ‘Careless in Rome’ with new project The Fax
All proceeds from the single go to Migrant Offshore Aid Station and The Refugee Council.
Tom Vek and former White Rose Movement singer Finn Vine started up new project The Fax together back in April, and they’ve now shared their first single. Written in response to the stoppage of Mare Nostrum - the EU’s search and rescue program in the Mediterranean - all the proceeds from ‘Careless in Rome’ go to the Migrant Offshore Aid Station and The Refugee Council.
The Mare Nostrum programme, which takes its name from the Roman name for the Mediterranean, saved the lives of over one hundred thousand migrants, before it was stopped last year. Since then, the far smaller replacement operation, Triton, has not been as effective.
With lyrics and vocals by Finn Vine, and production from Vek, ‘Careless in Rome’s matching video uses news channel footage of the humanitarian crisis; showing footage of Mare Nostrum in action, refugees scaling border fences, and finally the war-torn conditions from which they are fleeing.
