Twin Atlantic: ‘In A Perfect World, We’d Have A New Album Finished By The End Of This Year’

DIY caught up with Twin Atlantic’s Craig Kneale to see what lies ahead for album number two.

Twin Atlantic have been one of the busiest UK rock bands during the past year, but they show no signs of slowing down.

Having release their debut album ‘Free’ back in the first half of 2011, the Scottish four-piece are already looking ahead into what comes next.

“When we were in America, we supported You Me At Six and then recorded for a week,” explains drummer Craig Kneale. “So, our week off, we just did work anyway! While we were there. Then, we did a West Coast tour, which led straight into South By South West, which led straight into an East Coast tour.”

So, what was it that the guys were recording? “We were just demoing. Sam had quite a few songs that he had been working on and we were quite lucky that our label has a pretty good studio. When we were in LA, they freed up some time so that we could go in. We did about ten songs - just demos, but they’re pretty good sounding demos.”

And could the demos be the basis for the next Twin Atlantic album? “We actually quite like them all, but there are four or five tracks that are really strong. There’s always the fear that you won’t be able to outdo what you’ve done before. Because we were really proud of the last album and it was received quite well, you wonder, how do you? But, I think we’ve got a couple of really strong ones that can. It’s exciting just starting again.”

And as for the album itself, any idea when we might be able to expect it? “In a perfect world, we’d have it finished by the end of this year. It’s ambitious, but if that comes off is another story! I would love to work with Gil Norton again, but he’s really busy this year and we’re really busy this year, so it’s just trying to fit in somewhere!”

Twin Atlantic have just released a free five-track live EP and will be touring the UK in October and November.
