UK reaches 1 million vinyl sales in 2014
It’s the highest figure since 1996, following a wax-loving resurgence.
Vinyl sales have hit an eighteen-year record high in the UK in 2014, with 1 million units shifting in the past twelve months, the biggest figure since 1996.
In 2013, 780,000 records were sold, with more up to two hundred thousand more anticipated for the remainder of this year.
Factors behind the sales drive are linked to releases from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Royal Blood (picture) and Jack White. The latter hit a sales record in North America, selling 40,000 copies in just one week for his ‘Lazaretto’ LP.
This year’s biggest selling album is Arctic Monkeys’ ‘AM’, with ‘Lazaretto’ in second and Pink Floyd’s ‘The Endless River’ in third.
Vinyl love is set to continue tomorrow (27th November), with the launch of Record Store Day Black Friday - read DIY’s guide to the essential releases, including The Flaming Lips, St. Vincent and Chvrches.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
