Universal Music wins Australia court case against Modular Recordings founder
Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic has been ruled to have retained money “for his own benefit”.
Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic - the founder and former head of Modular Recordings - has lost a lawsuit to Universal Music Australia.
The Supreme Court of New South Wales came to the decision that Pavolic had been retaining money “for his own benefit”, given to him by an artist when offered as repayment for a deal advance.
As The Music reports, Pavolic made claims of his own, saying that Universal owed him $32,500 in unpaid annual leave. Judge Justice J Sacker ruled against the founder, describing him as “a thorn in Universal’s side” and siding with the major.
Pavolic has been involved in a separate disputing relating to Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. Reports claimed that up to a million dollars in royalties had not been paid to the band, and Parker recently said he was “surprised” by German publishing group BMG’s attempts to take legal action.
