Venture Lows make razor-sharp debut with ‘Summer/RIP’
Seasons-changing first effort gives nods to Metronomy and Tom Vek.
That’s it, guys. Summer’s out. The muggy skies have cleared. That’s not a swish sun tan, it’s just mud that’s accumulatively embedded itself into your skin over countless festival.
It might be premature to wave goodbye to sunny skies, but if new London two-piece Venture Lows are calling it, you’d be a fool to disagree. Authority stamps itself down into ‘Summer/RIP’, a seasons-changing blast of intelligently slick, bass-led pop.
The duo consists of Hassan Anderson and George Williams. Together, their simple, ever-shifting display brings to mind Metronomy’s ‘English Riviera’-trips and the instant fix of early Tom Vek, before launching into a warped coda worthy of Micachu and the Shapes’ strangest sessions. And just like a dodgy tan line, it leaves its mark over time.
‘Summer/RIP’ is coming out as a limited matchbox release, with 100 copies stocked at Rough Trade East. We’ve got the premiere, below.
