Watch a 9-year-old kid review Gengahr’s debut album ‘A Dream Outside’

Who does this kid think he is? Robert Christgau with a TIDAL subscription? Hunter S. Thompson if he was cast in ‘Outnumbered’? Pfft.

Actually, as it turns out, Nico Smith is better at reviewing records than most scribes. Nico Smith is 9 years old, and he first worked with Gengahr by directing their ‘Fill My Gums With Blood’ video. That’s right - he’s skilled behind a camera too.

Sitting in the critic’s chair, he’s been given the responsibility of delivering the first ever review for the band’s debut album ‘A Dream Outside’.

He begins by saying the album is “quite diminished”, which sounds a bit harsh, but he’s eventually won over. We won’t ruin the ending by telling you what score he gives the record, but let’s just say he hasn’t put it in the ‘Shit - Don’t Listen’ pile. He should also consider using DIY’s star rating, in future.

Another good thing - Gengahr’s ace ‘Dark Star’ track can be heard playing in the background.
