Say no to silence
Watch Nils Frahm cover John Cage’s ‘4’33’ ahead of ‘Late Night Tales’ mix
Curated release comes out this week.
On 11th September, Berlin-based composer Nils Frahm releases his ‘Late Night Tales’ mix, which brings together music from Four Tet, Broads of Canada and spoken word parts from actor Cillian Murphy.
Also in the release is a cover from Frahm of John Cage’s ‘4’33’ piece, which requires the performer to sit silently for an exact amount of time. Below is a new video of Frahm’s version, which funnily enough barely contains any silence.
“This rework could be considered a joke. I sat at the piano in silence and worked from there. I listened and took in the atmosphere and this is what came out of it. Of course, it doesn’t do Cage justice, but it was more fun playing rather than sitting in silence,” he says.
