Watch Sonic Boom Six’s #STANDFORSOMETHING Interview

Sonic Boom Six discuss lip piercings and the importance of Manchester in the build-up to their headline set.

Sonic Boom Six took on Manchester’s Deaf Institute on the first of our DIY x Dr. Martens’ #STANDFORSOMETHING tour. But they did more than that.

Going as rock ‘n roll as possible by getting her lip pierced, Laila K took the occasion pretty seriously, and Ally McCrae was on hand to have chat before the band’s storming headline set.

On the lip piercing, Laila explained: ‘I don’t drink so I’m not very rock and roll. I might as well get it all done in the daytime! I thought it’d be something cool.’

The local heroes were delighted to be playing in their home city: ‘We took you to Affleck’s Palace that’s a big building full of independent clothes shops and piercing shops. If you’re from Manchester, when you’re growing up and if you’re into alternative music or rock music, it’s kinda where you go. It’s where you go to meet other people that are into the same stuff. I thought, it’s really important to show people that aren’t from Manchester this amazing place.’

‘Most other places in the country that have anywhere like that, most of the time, by now will have been totally commodified or bought out by big coffee shops. It’s still got that market edge to it,’ added Barney Boom Six.
