Watch: The Breeders Rehearsing ‘New Year’

The Deal sisters’ post video of rehearsals for ‘Last Splash’.

Back at the end of last year, The Breeders announced that they would be returning and playing ‘Last Splash’ in full during the Deerhunter curated ATP, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the record. And with rehearsals clearly in full swing, they’ve clearly decided to let us all know exactly how it’s going.

Posting a video of ‘New Year’ to their YouTube account, the band - who’ve not released any new music since 2009’s ‘Fate To Fatal’ EP - are shown playing the ‘Last Splash’ track in Kim Deal’s basement.

Formed way back in 1988, The Breeders were initially a side project for Deal and Tanya Donelly from Throwing Muses, with ‘Last Splash’ being released in 1993 after the break up of Deal’s main band, The Pixies. The record went platinum in the States, and provided the band with their biggest (and arguably best known) hit, ‘Canonball’. Despite their many personnel changes over the years - with only the Deal sisters remaining constant, the line up appearing on the video is the same as that which recorded the record twenty years ago; Kim and Kelley Deal on guitars, Josephine Wiggs on bass and drummer Jim MacPherson.

Whilst their ATP show is their only confirmed date so far, the four piece have confirmed that ‘Last Splash’ will be reissued by 4AD later this year, to be branded as ‘LSXX’. The band are also due to announce further tour dates around the reissue, with UK and Europe dates promised.

The Breeders will play ATP Curated By Deerhunter at Pontins, Camber Sands between June 21st and June 23rd. For more information and tickets, head over to the ATP website.
