Stripped back
Watch The Maccabees take on a stripped down ‘Marks To Prove It’ in session
The title-track get an all new ‘acoustic’ (it’s not really, is it lads) version.
With ‘Marks To Prove It’ marking The Maccabees’ first UK number one album, the South London crew should probably still be out there partying (especially after roping in Drenge for their upcoming tour). Instead, the recent DIY cover stars have instead opted for a bit of saucy mood-lighting and filmed a stripped-back version of the album’s title-track.
The session, viewable below, morphs the track from a motorik bassy bruiser into a piano-centred folky epic. It’s billed as an ‘acoustic’ version, but we can spot at least one electric piano, and the first shot is of an electric guitar. Come on, lads.
Nevertheless, it’s a brilliant rendition of one of the year’s finest singles. In their recent DIY cover feature, The Maccabees chatted to us about the influence of their Elephant & Castle surroundings and streamlining their process - you can read that in full right here.
