Watch The National’s Matt Berninger cover Lou Reed

This summer, Andrew Bird has been livestreaming special performances on Facebook under the name, ‘Live From the Great Room’.

Previous guests have included John C. Reilly and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. And in the latest edition, he was joined by The National’s Matt Berninger.

For an acoustic performance, they performed The National’s ‘Pink Rabbits’ and Andrew Bird’s ‘Heretics’ before performing a cover of Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’.

The pair also discussed Matt’s role in his band (“I don’t know how to play anything! And I use things like, ‘Can you make it sound more cloudy?’ It’s not very helpful”) and the dynamic behind some of the world’s best groups.
