The Ninth Wave reveal new video for ‘Flower Into Wounds’

The latest visuals were inspired by J.G. Ballard’s infamous novel ‘Crash’.

In J.G. Ballard’s 70s novel ‘Crash’ - which was adapted into a film in the 90s - a group of people discover their sexual arousal from being involved in car crashes. As the novel progresses and the protagonist becomes more and more wounded, he describes himself as “flowering into wounds”, and it was from this line that Glasgow’s The Ninth Wave found the inspiration from new track ‘Flower Into Wounds’.

Taken from their debut album ‘Infancy’ (which was divided into Part 1 and 2), the track follows the idea of “emotional masochism and finding enjoyment in having your heart broken”, and they’re now sharing the haunting visuals. Speaking on the video the duo say, “The video is a meditation on suburban living expressed through a surreal interpretation of Cronenberg [the director of the film]’s ‘Crash’, all inspired by the lyrics of ‘Flower Into Wounds.’ Joern Utkilen, Amelia’s uncle, directed the video and helped us present the essence of the song visually.”
