Wayne Coyne to exhibit his first art collection in Baltimore
The Flaming Lips frontman will be at the American Visionary Art Museum in October.
The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne is set to debut his first art collection ‘King’s Mouth’ at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore this October.
As part of a wider exhibition titled ‘The Big Hope’, Coyne’s work can be seen in the museum from 3rd October and will run until August 2016. A statement explains that his work will explore “issues relating to hope and transcendent survival.”
Museum founder Rebecca Hoffberger says that his exhibition is also related to Coyne being robbed at gunpoint as a teenager:
“Surviving a violent, near-death experience awakened in him a joy and a tsunami of endless creativity rarely seen in anyone,” Hoffberger has said. “His drawings remind me of those most beloved by Saint-Exupéry; his lyrics are poetry…I’m really excited about the spirit that Wayne brings to this show. He’s very much the real deal, in terms of being a visionary.”
