Whitney announce second album ‘Forever Turned Around’ with sweet, sad new single ‘Given Up’
The Chicago group’s newest lands 30th August.
Back in 2016, Whitney landed with debut ‘Light Upon The Lake’ and immediately went from ‘those blokes that used to be in Smith Westerns’ to one of the most exciting new bands in the land.
Now, rejoice! Because the Chicago group - led by core duo Julien Ehrlich and max Kakacek - have announced its follow up, ‘Forever Turned Around’. Due 30th August via Secretly Canadian, it’ll pre-empt the band’s already-announced UK tour dates in November.
Speaking to DIY back in April, the pair opened up about the record, speaking about its tenser, more fraught outlook in comparison to their debut. “We’re not openly talking politics because I don’t really think our point of view as straight white dudes is really anything that people need,” explained Julien. “But this record is dealing with a lot of fear, confusion, substance abuse a little bit. It’s definitely not reading like ‘we love the way the world is moving’.”
Whitney have also shared the first track from the record, ‘Given Up’ - full of their customary spine-tingling harmonies, but riddled with that more forlorn undercurrent.
Listen to ‘Given Up’ and peep the tour dates below.
