Young Guns return with new single ‘I Want Out’

The five-piece have revealed the first cut from their forthcoming third album.

After releasing their last album ‘Bones’ all the way back at the start of 2012, it’s felt like a long time since Young Guns revealed some new music. Now, that’s all changed; the band, who are currently adding the finishing touches to their second album’s follow-up, have unveiled a brand new single.

Premiered last night (7th August) as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in the World, the band’s declaration ‘I Want Out’ is one hell of a powerful offering. Piano-led, the track follows in the epic rock song vein they’ve carved out for themselves, with an added dollop of bombast for good measure, but there are some nuances that could only be drawn from a broader variety of inspirations.

“Every time we would pick up a guitar and plug it in, we just weren’t inspired,” offered up frontman Gustav Wood, when the band were in the studio last month. “In the beginning,” the frontman admits, “we were struggling to write music that excited us because the things we were writing - or we felt we should be writing - were sounding like songs that could’ve gone on the last record. That wasn’t something that we were interested in doing at all, because we had already done it and we wanted this one to be a separate entity. A lot of my melody has come from playing the piano, and we definitely looked in different places for inspiration on this record.”

Young Guns also play this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals on 22nd and 24th August.
