Album Review
Peter Doherty & the Puta Madres - Peter Doherty & the Puta Madres
3 StarsGreat for the die-hards, fairly inconsequential for everyone else.
Roughly translated as ‘the motherfuckers’ they may be, but ol’ P-Do’s new comrades aren’t so much a rollocking gang of punk ruffians as shanty-favouring pub rockers. The PM’s question here, though, is what’s actually different? Aside from a dodgy vocal collab on ‘Paradise Is Under Your Nose’, the wistful laments and Arcadian lingo is very much Doherty business-as-usual. Much here sounds as though it could have been unearthed from the treasure trove of old demos the singer sporadically unloaded circa 2004; great for the die-hards, fairly inconsequential for everyone else.
