The Rapture - Pieces Of The People We Love

Whoos, Ooohs and those ubiquitous Cowbells, this latest dance party has been well and truly brought.

Amongst all of James Murphy’s old DFA family of beepers and tweakers, The Rapture stick out like the accessible sore thumb. Whereas Pixeltan make the kind of electronic pic’ n’ mix that doesn’t really send you to the dancefloor and Black Dice, while excellent, don’t exactly spread happy thoughts, the New York veterans really do bring ‘it’.

Showing similarities to the shape throwing days of Beck the title track ‘Pieces Of The People We Love’ shows that na na na na naaas still hold a certain something and that a laid back Luke Jenner is just as irresistible as the usual high octane yap.

And, while the post punk-esque drumbeats might be toned down a fair amount on ‘First Gear’ and the lulling ’Live In Sunshine’ ,there’s plenty of oh so chic zaps and girly backing vocals to make up for what’s, kind of, lacking in rhythmic punch.

Right on cue then there’s twice as much said punch as you could possibly want on ‘Whoo! Alright Yeah … Uh Huh’. Pulling along a cowbell alongside some sharp edged sticksmanship is never going to be wrong in DIY’s books and wedging in a clapdown speaky bit and a oh so camp call of ‘you ready girls’ elevates it to nothing short of Ace.
