From ‘Cold Hands! Hot Bodies!’’ clapping breakdowns and building keys - to the full on jazzed out choruses of well, just about everything else, ‘Hit the Floor’ is certainly not shy in its motive.
Songs melt into one another effortlessly, with ‘Stockholm Syndrome Part 1’ arriving in a run away train-esque buzz of striking keys and punching synths- as if Pretty Girls Make Graves have shed their dark mystery and picked a fight with Karen O’s wardrobe – and the even more raucous ‘Pt. 2’ gives breathless a whole new meaning.
While , yes, ‘You Did It’ is a bit sweeter with serrated harmonising nudging out the attitude stamp of Krista Loewen and Becky Ninkovic’s vocals and ‘The Gap’ mixes in the two elements of the overall sound - with a bit of lilting and a lot of racket- it’s tracks like ‘Jazz Crabs’ – great title and wonderful judders – that sum up the Canadian’s ace-worthy sound.
You Say Party! We Say Die!’s exclamatives are dotted with diamonds and dripping in synth. Dancing is compulsory.
