Corbu - Polygon Forest

Few bands mix the alien with the accessible quite like New Yorkers Corbu.

Anything producer Dave Fridmann puts his name to has to be outward-thinking. And New York psych newcomers Corbu fit the bill. Fridmann’s on mixing duties for ‘Polygon Forest’, a planet-hopping taste of the group’s upcoming debut album. And as otherworldly introductions go, few mix the alien with the accessible quite like this.

Capturing both the spirit of monsters on Mars and a strange cult located in the woods, Corbu’s music doesn’t exist in one solid state or place. There are hints of early MGMT, Midlake if they owned rockets. But with every move, Jonathan Graves attempts to sit outside traditional brackets. He sings about how he’s “gotta do something new,” and this seems to act as a mission statement more than something simple to chant within the frenzy.
