Maybe Death Cab for Cutie need a little help from match.com, because it’s a case of pretty enough guitar line seeking something a bit deeper with check-shirted-emotional-type with this latest excretion from the tear ducts of Ben Gibbard.
Yep, for a new E.P teaser, ‘Cath’ rings remarkably hollow. Like the recent album there’s nothing really wrong but it’s a little hard to get excited, angry, confused or generally Emotional about the poor lass lamented over here.
Coming from a genre that makes its penny relying on the thing, you can’t help but notice something is not quite right. Sounding rather formulaic when compared with the heart wrenching style of ‘We Have The Facts And We’re Voting Yes’, every little whelp elicits boredom rather than the wistful sighs of yore.
It’s even hard to believe that there is a young lass called ‘Cath’. With a name like that, she’s more likely to be your high school dinner lady than a long lost love.
