Grubs - Windwaker

Don’t want no Grubs? A Grubs is a band that can’t get no love from me? Think again, because clocking in at an economical one minute and fifty seconds, ‘Windwaker’ is as scratchy as it is catchy, rippling drum triplets underscoring interloping vocal lines and Girlpool-esque guitar synchronicity. There’s something of Electrelane in the repeated, shouty refrains, an overriding and endearing simplicity that lends itself to an instantly enjoyable listen. This is music to listen to in parks with unfeasibly short shorts on - infectious, lo-fi pop that’s urgent and cool simultaneously.

There aren’t any fourteen-minute long prog sections, church organs, or marimba solos here - Grubs don’t need bells and whistles. Instead, here’s almost two-minutes of blissful, summery pop, that’s well played and well-produced, and doesn’t go chasing waterfalls.
