Fall into the fuzz. Johnny Foreigner seem to have stocked up on guitar gizmos to add bulk to their blink-and-you-missed-it, forward-thinking indie jives. And whilst this isn’t exactly My Bloody Valentine-esque in its ability to make you run back to your parents’ home, ears bleeding, it provides a polar opposite to the irritatingly twee-punk ‘Feels Like Summer’, which almost seemed false in its ‘we’re happy, believe us, we really are!’ optimism.
And so ‘Grace And The Bigger Picture’, as well as having a pretty decent title, also looks set to provide us with different ‘moods’. Johnny Foreigner seem like they’re in no hurry to grow up, though. They’ve maintained pretty much everything from their almighty, adrenaline-pumped debut, only ‘Criminals’ unleashes an almost defeatist attitude: ‘Your town’s run by criminals, you’re almost all that’s left…’ In album context, both ‘Feels Like Summer’ and this could really flourish.
