The Big Moon, Arts Club, Liverpool

Jules and co hit the room with a remedy the strength of 30 max strength flu tablets.

Having caused quite the stir with their raucous rock n’ roll it appears that every indie kid on Merseyside has headed down to this Liverpool Music Week show at the Arts Club to catch a glimpse of The Big Moon before an album breaks them into the mainstream.

With winter approaching and weather getting colder it appears that Juliette Jackson has become one of the many season’s casualties, approaching the stage with a strong case of the sniffles. This doesn’t seem to get the band down though as they explode into latest single ‘Silent Movie Susie’ to the delight of a crowd who’ve been itching to hear those first dirty chords ring. Blowing away the cobwebs, Jules and co hit the room with a remedy the strength of 30 max strength flu tablets.

The room is captivated by a sea of flying ponytails, guitars and boot-clad feet which fail to keep still as the group pirouette and twirl manically, smiling the whole set long. Playing on the very edge of falling to pieces, their unpredictable live presence ignites an air of youthful exuberance and joy reflected in the face of the band and audience members alike.

But it’s The Big Moon’s choruses that make the most impact, the cacophonous climax of songs such as ‘Cupid’ instantly releasing dopamine. As if it couldn’t get any better the band treat our ears to an exclusive new one which flows through the room with their distorted charm and group chants as they get low, crouching as if to keep eavesdroppers from catching a glimpse of the elusive premiere.

Despite a rather short set, no-one can argue with the crudely drawn t shirt hanging above the merch table which says ‘The Big Moon are the best’, providing a performance which won’t be forgotten for quite some time.
