Whitney go through the motions for Reading 2016 set
The band suffer an early slot on a gigantic stage.
It’s been an extremely busy summer for Whitney. The band, made up of ex-Smith Westerns and Unknown Mortal Orchestra members, released their debut album ‘Light Upon The Lake’ and hit the festival circuit hard.
As a result, as festival season winds down, the band are impeccably tight, but today’s set feels like going through the motions for the band. An early set in the cavernous NME/Radio 1 tent doesn’t help them, with an anti-climactic feel all round.
Songs from ‘Light Upon The Lake’ still shine though, with ‘Golden Days’ a blissful highlight, and it remains one of the year’s most promising debuts. Today’s set is a minor blip in their year, but not one big enough to derail their continuing rise.
