Mac DeMarco - I’ve Been Waiting For Her
Mac’s never going to lose face in being himself.
There is no doubt in anyone’s minds that Mac DeMarco has become a household name. It’s dealt the Canadian with a perhaps unwanted hand, attention on a mass level and their changeable focus. Yet what’s become invaluable to DeMarco’s charm is his unwillingness to hide who he is and to ever change that. His forthcoming EP, ‘Another One’ is simply Mac being Mac, and ‘I’ve Been Waiting For Her’ proves he won’t lose anything from being himself, as he has done since the beginning.
One of the more direct tracks from ‘Another One’, Mac’s cut-back and slick, retaining the immediate catchiness of ‘2’ and combining it with he straight-laced frankness of ‘Salad Days’. He’s in a familiarly amorous mood, catching the euphoric feeling of falling for someone with the warm looped-rhythms that have become so integral to his sound and the smooth transition of tinkling verse to effortless chorus.
‘I’ve Been Waiting For Her’ feels like an significant segment in DeMarco’s career, not just a gratifying stop-gap between records. This is him feeling nostalgic, settled, being himself, and nobody puts Mac in the corner.
