, the first single from the upcoming third Razorlight album is crap. However, it’s not crap because it’s by Razorlight, in fact it sounds so little like anything they’ve have done before it’s as though someone’s put the wrong single in the sleeve.
‘Wire To Wire’, instead of having the guitar style that Razorlight have been using to varying degrees of success since the beginning, is lead by a piano. In fact, it’s more accurate to say that it’s pretty much entirely piano. There’s a little bit of bass in there as well but the guitars are completely MIA. Also if you thought that Johnny Borrell’s voice was annoying before (which this writer didn’t), have a listen to his Chris Martin impression here. It’s cringeworthy, especially listening to him pleading to be loved, in the songs ‘chorus’.
It sounds like a depressing Christmas single, not dissimilar to ‘Mad World’. It doesn’t get past the intro until the two minute mark and it’s not even three minutes long. We’re not sure who Razorlight are trying to impress but it’s sure as hell not working on us. ‘Wire To Wire’ is b-side material at best; there’s no excuse for it as a single.
