Trophy Wife - Microlite

A swaying beat of refined synths and chiming guitars.

Tracks with a Balearic backbone often suffer from necessitating the sun in order to fully immerse in its blissful sounds. But, such is the richness in production and subtlety of delivery in Trophy Wife’s debut single ‘Microlite’ it can be appreciated well into the Autumn. Which, given the ever-dwindling UK Summertime, could prove an essential characteristic to new-band durability.

A swaying beat of refined synths and chiming guitars underpin the lead single, infused with the reserved, melancholic vocals from lead singer Jody Prewett. Quite frankly, it could be simmering away in the background all day and not begin to grate, such is its breezy, unassuming nature.

B-side ‘Take This Night’ exudes similar levels of restraint and depth but the urge to get up and dance takes precedence. Beneath the initial tenderness is a definite poise in where they want to take their sound, but it’s maybe one which doesn’t lead your emotions quite as forcefully as you’d hoped.
