Wavves - I’m So Bored

You know how it is: you’re young, you can’t be arsed to get a job cos the only vacancies are at Primark, so what do you do? You hang around. You complain about being bored, without ever actually doing anything about it. Because that is essentially what your pass-time has become: talking about being bored. Being sooooo bored. Now hold that feeling, but picture yourself on a sunny beach in San Diego. Maybe with a skateboard and baseball cap. Got it? Sweet. You coulda just put Wavves’ ‘I’m So Bored’ on instead.

The drones, the play on high-low vocals, the constant distortion: mind numbing. You lose the ability to do anything. You sit, you listen, you enjoy. For a first UK release, this is pretty spectacular. With an intro recalling The Heartbreakers in their prime (or just any track off their only album), this tune hooks from the off. Infectious, brilliant, it hones in on you, takes hold of you and lays you back. Let’s pretend you’re a no-good skatin’, no-brain smokin’ San Diego slummer. That oughta keep you occupied for three minutes.
