Money on their mind
Adele, Leon Bridges, Passion Pit’s music removed from Soundcloud by Sony
Label hasn’t cited the reason for its decision, but a “lack of monetisation opportunities” are believed to be a factor.

Major artists on Sony’s US roster have had their music removed from Soundcloud.
It is believed that the online streaming platform doesn’t deliver enough revenue or “monetisation opportunities” for the label (and other competitors), when compared to alternative services.
Recordings from Adele, Leon Bridges, Passion Pit, Hozier, Miguel, Kelly Clarkson and MS MR have been removed from the artists’ respective Soundcloud pages.
Sony has yet to release a statement on the decision, although an anonymous source cited “lack of monetisation” prospects when speaking to Billboard.
Soundcloud does not pay royalties to the majority of its users, including labels, artists and publishers. In August 2014, the service introduced an ad-supported tier, while Warner Music Group signed an official licensing deal back in November. “We are in on-going conversations with major and independent labels and will continue to add partners to the program,” a Soundcloud representative says. “We’ve always put control in the hands of creators, and anyone who makes music and audio can decide when and how they want to share it with fans.”
