Sunday nostalgia
Lionel Richie confirmed to play Glastonbury 2015
Hello, is it Worthy you’re looking for?
Details have been typically few and far between until now, but yesterday afternoon came with the confirmation that Glastonbury’s first big name artist had been locked in. Yep, due to fill the Sunday afternoon nostalgia spot on the iconic Pyramid Stage: none other than Lionel Richie.
Said Sunday afternoon slot is traditionally filled by a heritage artist, playing far lower down the bill than their household name would normally grant them. Last year saw Dolly Parton draw the biggest crowd the Pyramid Stage had ever seen to the teatime slot of the enormous festival’s closing day, while previous years have seen Neil Diamond, Shirley Bassey and James Brown among those to stun the sleep-deprived and set them up for one more night of escapism.
The appearance marks Lionel’s first UK festival appearance ever – that giant inflatable Lionel Richie head at Bestival doesn’t count, sorry. Catch up with his mega-hit ‘Hello’ below. It’s sure to be echoing around Worthy Farm come June 28th.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
