St Vincent creates mixtape for a fan’s 4th July coming out party
Annie Clark’s self-love themed playlist, created for Chicago resident Stef, includes Perfume Genius, and George Michael’s ‘Freedom! ‘90’

On the latest installment of her Beats1 show St Vincent’s Mixtape Delivery Service, Annie Clark made a playlist for a fan’s July 4th coming out party.
Chicago local Stef came out to her family at an Independence Day BBQ, and accordingly, St Vincent’s playlist contains ‘4th of July’ by Soundgarden, George Michael’s ‘Freedom! ‘90’, and ‘Shout’ by Tears For Fears. She also threw in ‘i’ by Kendrick Lamar, and ‘Queen,’ Perfume Genius’ affirming ode to sashaying, for good measure.
“Brevity is the soul of wit,” laughed Clark, speaking to Stef. “Your submission is just wham, bam, thank you ma’am. I appreciate that.” Later on, St Vincent says she identifies with living with parents as an adult - she did the same after dropping out of college. “I lived in my childhood bedroom with Pearl Jam posters,” Clark says. “There’s no shame in that.”
