You’d be surprised at how many acts wipe the slate clean and make a new start. Alt-J changed their name a good two times before settling on their current guise, while lesser known producers like XXYYXX and Mister Lies played music in various punk bands before hitting the big time plugging in the good ol’ gadget.

Salt Cathedral used to go by the name Il Abanico. From 2011 onwards a fair few cult mutterings surrounded their emergence, but nothing on the level of Salt Cathedral, which saw the Brooklyn group starting afresh, touring first with Hundred Waters across the US before unveiling a similarly frenetic, multi-faceted soul through ‘debut’ track of sorts, ‘Take Me To The Sea’.

Said song’s fidgety, scatterbrained style sits up against the newly unveiled ‘Dirty Me’. The latest offering is more dogged and poised, semi-math rock structures crashing head-first into crystallised female vocals. Both beautiful and ruthless, it’s a vastly ambitious from a group brave enough to call it quits on former success and aim for something far bigger. They’re making substantial inroads based on these two tracks alone.
